The coffee is roasted in small batches in house, from beans the team sources directly from growers across Africa and Central and South America. This Main Street cafe is where it all started, the original of what is now several Methodical shops, opened in February 2015 by three friends who split the work between operations, roasting, and design.
The care shows up in the accolades. Food and Wine, Bon Appetit, and Architectural Digest have all featured the roaster, Lonely Planet named it the best cup of coffee in South Carolina, and it once sat at number one on Bean Score's national Top 100. Every batch is tested for consistency and roasted to draw out its own sweetness and balance, which comes through in a plain pour-over as clearly as in an espresso.
The room carries its share too. Tucked into One City Plaza behind floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto the tree-lined square, it stays bright and unhurried, down to an espresso machine hand-painted by local artist Annie Koelle. Strong wifi and real seating make it as easy to settle in with a laptop as to catch up with someone over a latte, and being steps from Falls Park and the Main Street shops makes it a natural first stop on a morning downtown.
