By far the best Chinese restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of visiting! During my brief week in Los Angeles, this place was so good I had to have dinner here TWICE! The food tastes amazing, the prices are reasonable, the staff are very kind and attentive, and this was the only restaurant in the US where I found myself tipping above the recommended tip because they truly deserved it. If I ever come back to Pasadena I am absolutely dining here again!

Popped in waiting for my car to be fixed nearby. Carlos greeted me and made sure I was welcomed and comfortable. I ordered the Dan veggie noodles, chicken soup, and spicy tofu with jasmine hot tea. Friendly service and prompt. Give Carlos a raise because he’s too good to stay as a server.

Their staff was incredible, they were very accommodating and attentive, expedited every need and were treating the service like pseudo fine dining despite it being relatively casual. The food was humble but flavorful with easy comfort food vibes. This definitely deserves a visit, excellent job!!!

I’ve been coming for years since they first opened! I grew up in Mexicali, Mexico known for its famous Chinese/Mexican food. I was married to a Chinese Taiwanese woman & made a beautiful child. I’ve been to Asia and pride myself on being one of the most open minded foodies out there, I love high end experiences as well as street food alike. If the food is good the food is good! However I do pay close attention to details & quality of ingredients and most importantly to be honest is the ability to feel welcomed & cared for in a place, Dans modern Chinese checks all the boxes for me, I’ve brought my Mexican grandma to this place the same way I’ve brought my foodie Asian friends- to me this place is consistent & service is always their focus, I know a few of the people by their name and they know mine. I may go months ar at a time without visiting yet I always feel like a local and most beloved customer. So thank you Dan modern Chinese!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while. The food was excellent. I ordered a little of everything to try. They don’t have their own parking but there’s a parking structure right behind and paid street parking available. They’re located in the same shopping area as Sugar Fish and Philz Coffee. It’s very clean inside and they do have a few outdoor tables. Personally I feel the dumplings are a bit pricey, but relevant to Pasadena. Their fried rice was very tasty. I’d prefer the popcorn chicken with more seasoning and without their dipping sauce. The mapo tofu didn’t over power the taste of the crab. I’d definitely order the noodles again. The crispy dumplings were pretty much perfect.
