Woodruff Road is where much of the Upstate does its shopping, and for a lot of Greenville, Saffron has long been the reward at the end of the errands. It sits in the WoodRuff Gallery plaza, and a remodel a few years back left the dining room more polished and modern than the strip-plaza address might suggest. It fills up on weekend evenings, so it helps to come a little early or plan for a short wait when the room is busy.
The menu covers the full spread of Indian cooking most people come in hoping for: curries and biryani, tandoori and tikka masala, samosas, and fresh naan straight from the tandoor. There is enough vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free cooking that many diners come specifically for the meatless side of the menu. Spice is set to your preference, and the staff will walk you through their scale if you are not sure where you land.
Butter chicken and garlic naan are the two dishes reviewers mention most, the naan buttery and blistered at the edges, while vegetarian diners are just as likely to talk up the vegetable korma, paneer dishes, and chana masala.
