We ended up at Lidia's on a random Thursday with no real plan, which turned out to be the best possible way to discover this place. It's in a converted freight house just south of Union Station and the building alone is worth slowing down for, big open beams, warm lighting, a fireplace going at the bar. The kind of space that just feels right as soon as you walk in. We sat at the bar while they found us a table and nobody rushed us or made us feel like an afterthought. The pasta trio is the thing here and if you leave without ordering it you've made a mistake. They bring three rotating daily pastas tableside and you can get refills as often as you want. That alone is a reason to come back multiple times because the menu shifts with the season. On the side we had the frico, which is a pan-crisped cheese disc that sounds simple but earns a lot of quiet table respect once it arrives. Then came the osso buco and the table went pretty silent. Braised veal shank over something creamy and roasted, fork tender and rich without feeling heavy, the kind of dish you eat slowly because you want it to last. The tiramisu at the end was the right call, not too boozy, not oversweetened, just a proper Italian dessert to close out a meal that genuinely didn't need to end. Service throughout was warm and knowledgeable without being stiff or performative. Kansas City is famously a BBQ city and visitors sometimes skip places like Lidia's for that reason, which I think is a real loss. This is the kind of Italian cooking that doesn't try to be anything other than itself. Parking is also free in the lot right next to the building, which is a detail you don't always expect near downtown.

Really great food and service and a little known fact about some of the best restaurants in the city the locals know?? Happy hour is only served in the bar area with the same great service and menu. Smaller appetizer and drink specials but at a discount. My party of 3 saved $50 and had a awesome time. Some places you have to book ahead to get into the bar area because of local patrons of establishments.

We really enjoyed the risotto with sausage it was so cheesy! The duck gnocchi came with generous bits of meat throughout, not dry or tough. Dont miss the strudle for desert, it was perfectly balanced, sweet with pops of acidity and paired well with creamy gelato.

We had our wedding dinner in the Terrazza. We had around 70 guests and I wanted to make sure I chose a place with ambiance and that didn’t feel like just a room with four walls. We loved everything about it! The gorgeous room, the downtown upscale location , the food was fantastic, the service was impeccable and friendly! There was plenty of parking for guests which is rare for a downtown location. Terra, Matthew and Doug helped to make it the best night of my life!

The rehearsal dinner we hosted in the Loft of Lidia's absolute perfection! The food was EXCEPTIONAL, the ambiance AMAZING and the wait staff PHENOMINAL! (Especially Miranda!!!) We couldn't imagine a more beautiful location with a superior menu to celebrate!!
