The Kourlas family opened Greektown Grille at McBee Station in 2013, and it has spent more than a decade serving traditional Greek cooking in the heart of downtown Greenville. The family sums up its approach with an old Greek idea: relax, enjoy the people you are with, and above all enjoy your meal.
The menu runs from Mediterranean classics to a few American favorites, but the plates diners keep singling out are the Greek ones. The avgolemono, a tart lemon and egg soup, draws some of the warmest praise, and starters like saganaki, grilled octopus, and dolmades show the range. Gyros carry the lunch rush. For dessert, the baklava cheesecake has a following all its own, alongside galaktoboureko and portokalopita.
There is Greek wine and beer to go with it, plus ouzo and Metaxa to finish the meal the Greek way. When the weather is right, the outdoor tables put you in the middle of downtown. It is a casual, unhurried room made for a long lunch or a table full of friends, which is the kind of visit the family set out to give.
