I love the food here. Everything was delicious. We ordered the bread and butter, the kale salad, the clams and mussels, and spaghetti. The spaghetti noodles are made in-house. The butter is made in-house. The kale salad was soo good. The clams and mussels were in a very delicious sauce. We will be back!
After looking at a few places for date night, we almost went to Granville but decided to give The Raymond 1886 a try instead. I'm really glad we did. First tip: make a reservation. We booked one on the drive over and selected a high-top because that was all that was available. We arrived about 20 minutes early, and to our surprise they ended up seating us at a regular table instead. Nice bonus. Valet parking was only $8, which is a bargain these days. When we first walked in, I honestly thought we'd made a mistake. There was a huge crowd and a line near the entrance. Turns out they were hosting a private party in a separate banquet room. The restaurant itself was on the other side, so don't panic if you see a crowd when you first arrive. The atmosphere is one of my favorite parts of the restaurant. It's cozy, intimate, and feels more like you're dining in a historic home than a restaurant. The ceilings are lower, the lighting is warm, and the whole place has a comfortable vibe. It was pretty noisy on a busy Saturday night, but that's to be expected when every table is full. Our server, Alex, was outstanding. Friendly, attentive, and made the entire evening feel relaxed without hovering. We skipped appetizers this time because we wanted to save room for our entrées. My girlfriend ordered the Peruvian Brick Chicken and upgraded her side to the Mac n' Cheese. I ordered the Trofie al Pesto with added grilled chicken. Both dishes were excellent. The pesto pasta was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced without being overly rich. The chicken was cooked perfectly and blended really well with the pasta. My girlfriend absolutely loved her chicken, and she's not a big eater, but she finished much more than I expected. That's always a good sign. The real surprise of the night was the Mac n' Cheese. Honestly, if I had to recommend one thing on the table, it would be that. It was creamy without being heavy, had just the right amount of cheese, and the crispy breadcrumb topping gave it great texture. One of the better restaurant mac and cheeses I've had. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails and a bottle of sparkling water. If you're ordering steaks, appetizers, desserts, and drinks, this can easily become a $200+ evening, so just plan accordingly. We kept it a little lighter and felt it was money well spent. Overall, we actually enjoyed this dinner more than another upscale French bistro we recently visited. The food was excellent, the service was top-notch, parking was easy, and the atmosphere made for a great date night.
Great food. From fish to cheese to meats it was great all around. The service was great. One problem was my main course came out first and my wife and sons came out almost 30 minutes later. I had finished mine by the time theirs came. Bad form. The atmosphere was awesome. It's essentially a house. All the rooms and outside area are converted tables.
Cozy spot tucked in S Pasadena. Its a local spot amongst Pasadena folks. This place has a long standing history dating back to 1886. Vibe is traditional american. Has a cute outside patio w lush greenery. Food was solid. Staff was super friendly and attentive.
Honestly really disappointed in this place. I had to ask countless times for everything including water, and he was extremely inattentive. The food was extremely overpriced for the tiny portions and frankly the food was not good. We were freezing the whole night and they decided to turn on the heaters right when we were leaving? Like the rest of the night, when we asked for the check, it took us asking multiple people for the server to bring out the check which was done through a device he had on him the whole time? Also tip was included so I couldn’t even let that reflect how poorly I thought of the service and the food. Avoid this place
