Wild Yarrow builds its beer around a simple idea: a pour should taste like where it comes from. The lineup runs to crisp lagers, mixed-fermentation saisons made with ale and wild yeast, and barrel-aged wild ales, with malt from nearby Asheville and fruit, herbs, and flowers from around South Carolina. The name nods to an older tradition, back when yarrow, the small white flower owner Aaron Dowling and his wife Cindy grow themselves, did the bittering work hops handle now.
Dowling opened the taproom in 2025 in the former Tetrad Brewing space on Stone Avenue, in the Overbrook neighborhood, taking over a turnkey brewhouse with little more than fresh paint and his own recipes. It is a small, community-minded room: dogs are welcome inside and on the patio, Wednesday pint nights come with free house-made pup cups, Thursdays are vinyl night with a record swap crate, and Tuesdays run music bingo. Live music and food trucks rotate through most weeks.
Visitors praise the owners as warmly as the beer, and the brown ale and Vienna lager come up again and again in reviews. With a small system and a lineup always turning over, it is the kind of spot you settle in for an unhurried afternoon while the room's easy, record-spinning energy decides how long you stay.
