The Cribb family started out as peach farmers in the Upstate, and the hospitality at their table eventually turned into a restaurant. The original Cribbs Kitchen has anchored Main Street in downtown Spartanburg for well over a decade. Tyger River is the second location, opened at Tyger River Plaza on Reidville Road by William Cribb and Raj Patel to reach a fast-growing part of the county.
The kitchen runs wider than its American label suggests, moving from Southern comfort plates to globally borrowed dishes, with produce pulled from local farms. Starters like the crispy Brussels sprouts and whipped ricotta get named over and over in reviews, and the sides, parmesan fries and sweet potato fries, tend to vanish before the entrées land. There is a full bar built to be the center of the room, brunch service, and a cocktail list that nods to the family's peach-farming roots.
It pulls a mixed crowd, families and after-work tables alike, in a space finished in reclaimed wood and copper that reads comfortable rather than fussy. For a first order, the jalapeño popper burger and those Brussels sprouts are what people around here keep coming back for.
