Grill Marks is a loud, busy burger-and-bar room right on South Main, brick walls bouncing the noise around and a full bar running down one side. The real estate people fight over, though, is the Main Street patio, dog-friendly and warmed by fireplaces and heat lamps when it turns cold, one of the better people-watching perches downtown.
The food is smash-style Angus burgers done up creative, from the Hawaiian Punch to a bison Yellowstone, with truffle parmesan fries as the side people actually argue about. But the milkshakes are what made the place a Greenville institution: over-the-top freak shakes stacked with brownies and candy, plus a lineup of boozy shaketails for the grown-ups.
Expect it loud and busy, especially on a weekend or a game day, the kind of casual, fun downtown stop where you split a burger, a pile of fries, and one absurd milkshake three ways and call it a night out.
